About the Speakers
Tammy Sugihara graduated from Pacific Union College in Napa Valley in accounting and marketing and has been a key contributor to AMLLP's nonprofit tax niche group for several years on both the compliance and consulting sides. Tammy has worked with private schools, fine arts organizations, museums, start-ups, and national organizations. Tammy chairs the CalCPA Nonprofit Interest Group of the East Bay which helps manage over 200 nonprofit organizations streamline the process of preparing Forms 990.
Monika Miles and her partner formed Labhart Miles Consulting Group in 2002. Labhart Miles is a professional services firm specializing in multi-state tax solutions. The firm addresses state and local tax issues for clients, including general state tax consulting, nexus reviews, credits and incentives maximization, income tax and sales/use tax planning, and other special projects. Labhart Miles also specializes in California Enterprise Zone projects, including the EZ Hiring Credit and the EZ Net Interest Deduction for Lenders.
Prior to forming the firm, Monika spent 11 years in "Big 4" public accounting.
Monika has provided such services as federal and state income/franchise tax compliance and consulting, sales/use tax consulting, audit support, and credits and incentives reviews. She has served clients in a variety of industries including manufacturing, technology, telecommunications, construction, utility, retail and financial institutions.
Monika graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) with a BBA in Accounting/Finance and has a Masters in Taxation from San Jose State University.
Brenda Jemmott joined RINA in December 2006 as a Tax Manager in the Oakland, CA office. Originally from New York, she received her Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh in 1995, prior to working at a public accounting firm in Buffalo, NY for eight years. Brenda joined the IRS in 2003 as a Revenue Agent in the Large to Mid-Size Business Division.
Brenda's experience includes performing and supervising audit, accounting and tax engagements. While at the IRS, she has worked independently auditing large corporations where she has obtained experience with complex corporate transactions. She has valuable experience in all areas of taxation, with an added emphasis on corporations and partnerships, merger and acquisition tax issues, and real estate partnerships. In addition, Brenda is working on her certificate in International Taxation.
