led by local women financial advisors, that will focus on the
building blocks of financial wealth.
This is the first of a two-part series
co-sponsored by FWA and PricewaterhouseCoopers aimed at
helping mid-level professional women better understand the
building blocks of a sound financial plan. Topics include
the structure of a financial plan, managing debt, the basics
of investing and protecting your assets. Part two is to be
scheduled in April.
Moderated by Laura Roden of VC Privé LLC,
the panel discussion will include the basic structure of a
financial plan; managing debt (credit scores, credit cards,
loans); the basics of investing (risk, return and portfolio
allocation); retirement products (401ks and IRAs) and
finally a few words about protecting your assets through
insurance.

About the Panelists
Michelle Alberda
Michelle founded a solo financial advisory practice of
Ameriprise Financial Services in San Francisco in 2007. She
has ten years of experience in financial planning and in
2004 she received CFP® certificant status and has developed
experience in comprehensive financial planning including
planning for retirement, estate and income tax planning
strategies, stock option strategies, and education planning.
Her main focus is working with women and small business
owners. Michelle is the co-founder of SKIRT, a networking
group for women. She was President of the Financial Women’s
Association of San Francisco in 2007 and currently serves on
the Endowment Committee. In 2008 she co-authored and
published the Amazon.com bestselling book SKIRTworking: How
to Network Using SKIRT.
Cathy Curtis
Cathy, a CFP®, is a fee-only independent financial advisor
since 2001 and CEO of her firm, Curtis Financial Planning
based in Oakland California. Her financial planning and
investment advisory practice specializes in the unique
financial needs of women, their families and their
businesses. Cathy is also active in the community, mentoring
women entrepreneurs for the Hatch Network and planning
events for the Commonwealth Club of California. A financial
literacy advocate, Cathy educates the public through her
blog "Of Independent Means" and her Facebook business page
"Women and Money" as well as her website.
About the Moderator
Laura Roden
Laura is the founder and managing director of VC Privé, LLC.
VC Privé is an investment bank, which raises money for
venture capital funds, private equity funds and hedge funds.
Prior to founding VC Privé, Ms. Roden was the Managing
Director of The Angels' Forum (TAF), a leading association
of individual and corporate early stage investors. Ms. Roden
is currently a member of the Harvard Angels, and active with
the Angel Capital Association. Ms. Roden was an original
Board member of the Forum for Women Entrepreneurs &
Executives (FWE&E). She was nominated as one of the "most
influential women in Silicon Valley" by the San Jose
Business Journal. Ms. Roden received her undergraduate
degree from Harvard/ Radcliffe and her MBA from Harvard
Business School. She holds Series 7 and 66 licenses to sell
securities and provide investment advisory services.
