The Financial Women's
Association Of San Francisco
Presents
An Industry Leadership
Series Event
featuring
Jennifer Chapman, Chief Operating Officer, Wild Planet
" Tales from the Trenches: A Toy Company & Its Drive for
Social Responsibility"
on
Wednesday, September 16, 2009
Wild Planet was founded in 1993 with a mission to create
quality products that spark the imagination and provide
positive play experiences for children. Sixteen years after
its inception, the company continues to produce
award-winning products that inspire kids and garner parent
approval. Now the toy industry is changing rapidly. Kids are
"getting older younger," and pressure from retailers and
consumers to keep prices down is rampant. At the same time,
costs are increasing in China, where the company
manufactures its products.
Amid these pressures, Wild Planet is a shining example of a
successful company that has stayed true to its commitment to
giving back to the community. Acknowledging the need for
companies to positively contribute to the lives of kids,
Wild Planet promotes volunteerism by offering its 60
employees monthly paid volunteer time to spend with an
organization of their choice.
Jennifer Chapman, the Chief Operating Officer of Wild
Planet, will explore how Wild Planet is navigating the
changing marketplace and the company's efforts in
sustainability, community involvement, and employee best
practices.
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and California
Congresswoman Jackie Speier have acknowledged Wild Planet's
contributions to the community with Certificates of Honor.
Wild Planet has also received accolades ranging from "Toy of
the Year" titles to recognition from toy experts and top
media outlets - including Time Magazine, The Wall Street
Journal, The New York Times, Good Morning America and
The Oprah Winfrey Show. Based in San Francisco, Wild
Planet manufactures toys that are distributed
internationally in more than 55 countries.
