The Financial Women's
Association Of San Francisco
Silicon Valley Group
Presents
"Risk, Preferences and the Evolution of the Retirement
Plan"
An Industry Leadership Series Event
on
Wednesday, May 6th
This event has been CANCELLED
Join us for this dinner program with Christopher
Jones, Executive Vice President of Investment Management and
Chief Investment Officer at Financial Engines, where we will
explore how continuing demographic shifts, increasing
longevity, greater labor mobility, and societal risk-sharing
considerations are driving the global adoption of defined
contribution (DC) plans such as the 401(k). As these
trends are likely to persist, we can expect DC plans to
dominate the retirement systems of most developed countries.
But how will such plans deliver on retirement security for
participants? What are the implications of individual
participants bearing investment risk? How will DC plans
evolve to meet the needs of plan participants who are
accumulating assets for retirement and those who require
income in retirement? In this evening program, we will
discuss the evolving US retirement market and consider
implications for the future of corporate retirement plans.
About the Speakers

Christopher Jones is Executive Vice President of
Investment Management and Chief Investment Officer at
Financial Engines.
He joined the company as the third employee in 1996. Working
closely with founder Bill Sharpe, Chris built and led the
team of finance, economics, and mathematics experts who
developed the methodology for Financial Engines'
personalized investment advice and portfolio management
services. At Financial Engines, Chris oversees the
Investment Management Group, which is responsible for
investment analysis, financial research and development, and
portfolio management. He also serves as Chairman of the
company's Investment Committee.
Before joining Financial Engines, Chris worked at
Cornerstone Research, an economic and financial consulting
firm, where he managed consultant teams that studied
financial institutions, securities class-action claims,
antitrust actions, and intellectual property issues in
support of complex corporate litigation. Prior to working at
Cornerstone Research, he conducted research at the Center
for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) at Stanford University.
Chris holds an M.S. in business technology, an M.S. in
engineering-economic systems, and a B.A. in quantitative
economics, all from Stanford University.
Christopher recently wrote
The Intelligent Portfolio, a book using
state-of-the-art simulation and optimization methods to
demonstrate the often-surprising results of applying modern
financial economics to personal investment decisions. By
illustrating the realistic range of possible investment
outcomes, Jones reveals how today's decisions may impact
future results and helps investors to increase their chances
of reaching goals.
