"Life in a Bear Market"

An Industry Leadership Series Event
on
Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

"Bull markets are born on pessimism, grow on skepticism, mature on optimism, and die on euphoria." - Sir John Templeton.

But the question today is: "How do we handle Life in a bear market?" These are turbulent times, and financial disaster seems to lurk at every turn. Join us to hear Frank J. Jones, Ph.D. address some of the concerns we all have about how we should view the world of investing. Dr. Jones is Chairman of the Investment Committee for Salient Wealth Management, LLC, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Securities Exchange, and a professor of Finance at San Jose State University.

For many, emotions are at an all-time high, but does it have to be that way? Dr. Jones will discuss portfolio risk and five rules to follow to help investors sleep better at night. An expert in the field, Dr. Jones has years of industry experience - including 13 years managing a $29 billion portfolio as Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer for The Guardian Insurance Company.

About the Speaker

Frank's accomplishments include playing a founding role at the International Securities Exchange (ISE), and managing a $29 billion portfolio at Guardian Life. At ISE, Frank has served as Chairman of the Board and of the Corporate Governance Committee. He is currently Vice Chairman of the Board.

Frank held strategic and executive positions at Merrill Lynch, Kidder Peabody, and the N.Y. Stock Exchange, where he initiated its stock options program. Frank is currently a professor of finance at San Jose State University, and has also taught at Notre Dame, NYU, Columbia, Yale, MIT, and Rutgers. He has published three books, contributed to The Handbook of Finance (soon to be published by John Wylie), and is currently co-authoring The Foundation of Markets and Institutions.
