Join us in welcoming Gillian Tett, assistant editor
of the Financial Times, as she offers her insights into the
state of global financial markets.
As a long-time Financial Times reporter and expert
in social anthropology, Ms. Tett will thoroughly examine the
meaning of money in our society and what it means for the
future of our global economy. she will offer her unique view
on the causes and effects of the current global financial
situation from three distinct perspectives:
Economic – the contributions and effects of global
monetary and fiscal policy;
Journalistic – a story of structural changes in banking;
Anthropological – the cultural context of money.
About the Speaker
Gillian Tett is an assistant editor of the
Financial Times, and oversees their global coverage of
the financial markets. In 2007, she was awarded the Wincott
Prize - the premier British award for financial journalism -
for her coverage of the capital markets. She was also
shortlisted for the "British Business Journalist of the
Year" award.
She joined the Financial Times in 1993, working in
the former Soviet Union and in Europe, and on the economics
team. In 1997, she was posted to Tokyo, where she became the
bureau chief before returning in 2003 to become deputy head
of the "Lex" column. She is the author of Saving the Sun:
How Wall Street Mavericks Shook up Japan's Financial System
and Made Billions (Harper Collins and Random House).
Gillian Tett has a Ph.D. in social anthropology from
Cambridge University, based on research conducted in the
former Soviet Union in the early 1990s. She speaks French,
Russian, moderate Japanese and Persian.
