special luncheon and afternoon program on Friday, September
28, at Mills College in Oakland. This special half-day
symposium on finance features keynote speakers and industry
leaders, Kate Mitchell and Evelyn Dilsaver. Learn the paths
they took to achieve career success and select two of four
dynamic breakout sessions where you can discover new
strategies to enhance your professional effectiveness. A
reception following the second keynote address offers the
perfect opportunity to share impressions and network.
Keynote Speakers:
Kate Mitchell
Managing Director of Scale Venture Partners
As managing director of Scale Venture Partners, Kate
Mitchell brings more than 25 years’ experience in
technology, finance, and management to her teams investing
in software and business services. Before joining ScaleVP in
1996, Ms. Mitchell was responsible for the development and
launch of Bank of America's Internet banking services. In
addition to technology management, she has significant
experience in corporate finance and business development.
She sits on the boards of Cogency Software, Pavilion
Technologies, and Wayport. Ms. Mitchell holds a BA from
Stanford University and an MBA from the Executive Program at
Golden Gate University in San Francisco. She also attended
the Harvard Executive Program for Strategic Marketing.
Evelyn Dilsaver
Executive Vice President of Charles Schwab, President and
CEO of Charles Schwab Investment Management
As president and CEO of Charles Schwab Investment
Management, Evelyn Dilsaver is responsible for $200 billion
in assets under management under two brand names (Schwab
Funds and Laudus Funds). Prior to this role, she was a
senior vice president responsible for the product
management, marketing, and distribution of all proprietary
and third-party asset management products at Schwab. She
previously worked with U.S. Trust, a subsidiary of Charles
Schwab, as their CFO and CAO. Ms. Dilsaver graduated from
Cal-State Hayward with a degree in Accounting and is a CPA.

Panelists
- Debra Chong, Chair, CEO, and Co-Founder, Lenos Software: Lenos Software is the leading event marketing CRM technology
for Fortune 1000 companies. Prior to co-founding Lenos
Software, Ms. Chong was a Partner in several multinational
law firms, representing financial services, regulated
industries, corporate, e-commerce and emerging technology
clients. She is an active leader at the American Bar
Association. Ms. Chong is a graduate of Boston University,
Georgetown University Law Center, and the Pacific Coast
Banking School, University of Washington.
- Karen Kang, Positioning and Brand Strategist, Karen
Kang Consulting: Ms. Kang is a recognized expert in
corporate and product positioning. She has worked with more
than 125 companies - from members of The Fortune 100 to
start-ups - to develop successful positioning and brand
strategies. She has served as an executive in advertising,
public relations, and strategic marketing consulting firms,
and has worked as a professional journalist on both the west
and east coasts. Ms. Kang holds an MS degree in journalism
from Boston University and a BA degree in English from Mills
College.
- Alicia Morga, Chairman and CEO, Consorte Media: Prior to
founding Consorte Media, Ms. Morga was an investment
professional focused on U.S. venture opportunities in the
technology sector and early-stage
software investments. She has worked at such notable
companies as The Carlyle Group's U.S. Venture Fund, Hummer
Winblad Venture Partners, Napster and Zero Gravity Internet
Group, Inc. Alicia has also served on the Boards of several
companies, including Ingenio, Ventaso, Secure Elements,
Archetype-Solutions, Applied Semantics, Menerva
Technologies, Inc. and Discovercast, Inc. Ms. Morga holds a
JD from Stanford Law School and received her BA from
Stanford University.
Moderator
- Nancy Williams, Management Consultant and Lecturer, Mills
College: Ms. Williams has a 20-year background in
operations, banking, marketing, and line management, and is
currently a principal in her own consulting practice. She
earned her MBA at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Ms. Williams teaches the core courses "Operations
Management" and "Ethics, Leadership and Entrepreneurship"
for the Mills Graduate School of Business.

leaders by inspiring and empowering others to think
creatively and to acquire the necessary skills to solve
essential problems.
Panelists
- Mary Cranston, Senior Partner, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw
Pittman, LLP: Ms. Cranston was one of the first women in the
Pillsbury Winthrop litigation department, and was the first
woman litigator to become partner. From 2001-2002, she
chaired the "No Glass Ceiling Task Force" of the San
Francisco Bar Association, a blue ribbon task force that
produced six best practices for the promotion of women to
leadership positions in law firms. Ms. Cranston began
working at Pillsbury Winthrop in San Francisco directly
after graduating from Stanford Law School.
- Claire McAuliffe, Partner, Hodge / Niederer / Cariani:
Ms.
McAuliffe is a leader in creating partnerships with Boards
and executive leadership teams in companies of all sizes.
She is also a member of the Hodge / Niederer / Cariani Board
of Directors Search Practice. Ms. McAuliffe has spent over
fifteen years in the human capital industry, and is one of
the early founders of M Squared Consulting. She attended
Bradford College in Bradford, MA, and Dominican University
of California in San Rafael, CA.

- Siobhan Reilly, Associate Professor of Economics, Mills
College: Dr. Reilly is currently the James Irvine Chair at
Mills College. Before Mills, she taught at U.C. Berkeley,
Johns Hopkins, and Vanderbilt. Dr. Reilly has a Ph.D. from
U.C. Berkeley, and an MA in International Affairs from the
School of Advanced International Studies of the Johns
Hopkins University. She teaches policy-related courses for
the Mills Graduate School of Business, including "Public
Sector Economics," "Health Economics" and "Urban Economics.

Taught By
- April Gilbert, Former Executive Director, Alumni
Consulting Team of Stanford Business School and Visiting
Assistant Professor, Mills College: Dr. Gilbert worked in
the private and non-profit sectors, both domestically and
overseas, for several years before earning an MBA from
Stanford Business School. She also holds a Ph.D. in
Organizational Behavior from U.C. Berkeley's Haas School of
Business. Dr. Gilbert teaches the "Non-Profit Management"
and "Negotiations" courses for the Mills Graduate School of
Business.

Panelists
- Debora Bonner, Program Director, Corporate Social and
Environmental Advisory Services, Environmental Resource
Management: Ms. Bonner has 12 years' experience, the
last two with ERM, in strategic and operational planning,
performance improvement and organizational development in
the high technology, consumer products, and oil and gas
sectors. Her primary focus is helping clients realize
business value by integrating systematic management of
environmental and social risks/ opportunities in the
business value chain into core and supporting operations
processes and business practices. Ms. Bonner received an MBA
from the Mills Graduate School of Business and BA in
Environmental Studies from Mills College. She also received
a BA in Industrial/ Organizational Behaviour from the
University of Cape Town, South Africa.
- Bonnie Nixon Gardiner, Global Program Manager, Hewlett
Packard: At HP, Ms. Nixon Gardiner is responsible for
strategy and management of HP’s worldwide Supply Chain
Social and Environmental Responsibility Program. Prior to
joining HP, she was Vice President of an Environmental
Communications Firm, where she managed more than 200 public
and private sector projects. Ms. Nixon Gardiner obtained her
degree from Pennsylvania State University and completed
advanced studies in environmental mediation and conflict
resolution.
Moderator
- Jasmin Ansar, Environmental Policy Manager, Pacific Gas
and Electric Company and Visiting Assistant Professor, Mills
College:
Dr. Ansar has a Ph.D. in Economics from the
University of Southampton, England and taught Econometrics
and Economics at the City University, London, England for
ten years. Dr. Ansar teaches the "Modeling and Data
Analysis" course for the Mills Graduate School of Business.
